Recently, I spent two nights at B&B Fiori e Limoni, a cozy bed and breakfast situated outside of the city of Cagliari on the south side of Sardinia.
It took me a little while to warm to B&B Fiori e Limoni; not until the bus took me out of the center of Cagliari did I realize how isolated it was. While I was initially skeptical of the place, my impression changed thanks to my gracious hostess Pasquina and her mother.
Out of the dozen or so times I have used Airbnb to find lodging, this is by far the best experience I have ever had, hospitality-wise.
I especially took to Pasquina’s mother, who despite speaking only Italian–which I barely understand, let alone speak–showered me with kindness. Pasquina’s English is quite acceptable and at night we sat outside in their lovely garden and talked about traveling and what life is like in Sardinia.
The homemade pizza and limoncello that they offered me was a wonderfully delicious gesture!
A highlight of my stay was breakfast, when a tray of biscuits, tea, and some of the best preserves I’ve ever had was served. Naturally, the preserves were made by Pasquina’s mother.
In summary, while this B&B is not ideal for people looking for the excitement of Cagliari and its nightlife, it is excellent for getting to Poetto beach and for a more leisurely, quiet stay in the burbs–not to mention for the wonderful company of these gracious hostesses. Considering that Pasquina and her mother have only had this business open for 3 months I think that they’ve come a long way already and will only improve their B&B in the coming months and years.
