Why You Should Stay @ Sunset Destination Hostel on Your Next Trip to Lisbon

Red Rooftops

Lisbon is a beautiful city, and like any great European metropolis these days, it’s flooded with boutique and high-end hostels that add a unique flavor to seeing the city. So much competition means lots of choices for you, so I’ll weigh in on why you should consider Sunset Destination Hostel on your next visit to Portugal’s seaside capital.

When it comes to location, Sunset is impossibly superior to any other hostel I have stayed at, ever. It’s literally in a train station—and not just any random station either, but one that has quick connections to the main city train terminal, regional buses, and suburban rail. Getting around is easy even for the most directionally challenged traveler. Your parents will also be happy to know that there is a supermarket in the station, so Mom won’t have to worry that you’re starving to death on your grand European adventure.

If staying home is more your thing, consider that Sunset offers an included pancake breakfast and fully equipped kitchen, a large terrace complete with pool, bar, and yes-it-really-is-used-for-what-you-think-it-is Love Shack (because if you’re gonna have hostel sex, Sunset wants you to do it in privacy and style). And it’s pretty much self-evident that a hostel with Sunset’s cache doesn’t have creaky metal bunk beds or sagging mattresses: You will sleep well at night, provided your roommates don’t barge in at 6 AM and wake you up (but honestly, that could happen anywhere).

As for those little extra things that you can’t put a price on, like friendly and knowledgeable employees, organized tours to local attractions such as Sintra Castle, and Sunday night Fado excursions, Sunset gets full marks. You can see what others have to say about the hostel and make reservations here, here, or directly on their website, which is the cheapest way to book.

Note to my readers: Yes, my stay was partially compensated in exchange for writing this review. No, I wouldn’t say nice things without cause; it’s an excellent value and I would have the same opinion even if I paid full price.
